CRISPR-Cas12a is an RNA-protein molecule that allow us to identify and modify specific DNA sequences. The RNA works like a search engine that identifies the specific DNA sequence and the protein is the biological scissor that cuts it.

CRISPR-Cas12a can detect and change any DNA sequences. At Twelve Bio we use this technology to generate new variants with unique features.

  • Small & Multiplex

    Most CRISPR solutions today are based on Cas9.

    Ours is built on Cas12a which is smaller than Cas9 and can be easily used to simultaneously target multiple genes.

  • PRECISE

    Existing CRISPR solutions struggle to restrict their cleavage only to the targeted sequences.

    Our variant is more precise which allow us to cleave only the intended DNA sequence.

  • SENSITIVE

    Timely identification of diseases leads to more efficient cures and increase chances of survival and CRISPR has shown great potential to identify specific DNA sequences.

    Our CRISPR biosensor has the ability to highly amplify the signal from the target DNA related to the disease allowing us to detect very low amounts of it.

    With a simple blood test based on CRISPR-Cas12a we have an opportunity to reduce both costs and time while simultaneously making the experience considerably more convenient for both patients and professionals.

    THERAPEUTICS

    Today genetic disorders are treated by alleviating the symptoms. In contrast, a genome editing approach treats the disease by addressing the root of the disorder: the DNA sequence responsible for it.

    Using CRISPR-Cas12a we can correct faulty DNA sequences with high efficacy and specificity, making sure that the genetic changes that are triggered by our Cas12a are directed only on the intended DNA target.
